Welcome to PK's P2PTV Guide

This is your guide to watching live TV channels for free on you PC using P2PTV or Peer-to-Peer Television. There is only a few seconds delay from the original broadcast so you won't notice the difference from live TV.

P2PTV uses BitTorrent technology so the quality of the stream is not affected as more users watch the program. It is getting very popular today because it has freed many people from having to subscribe to pay-per-view to watch live football games.

As of now, only one program, CoolStreaming has been forced to discontinue because of copyright violations. It was once the most popular P2PTV application out there.

Today there are a lot of P2PTV applications available. But don't worry because we will give you the rundown on which is the best program.

Watch Live TV On Your PC

1. First you will need to have a broadband internet connection with downstream of at least 512 kbps and your computer needs to be at least a Pentium III with an 800mhz processor. (test your speed)

2. You need to have Windows Media Player 9. get it

3. If you are using Windows XP SP2, you will need to download the Event ID Patcher and change the maximum outgoing TCP connections to 100. more

4. You now need a P2PTV program such as PPStream.

5. Select a channel on PPStream and wait for the stream to load, after it finishes loading, you can now watch the stream

6. There are loads of other programs and other channels out there so try to experiment.

P2PTV Programs

PPLive
PPLive is another one of the better P2PTV programs out there. There are also a lot of different channels and I only experienced lag in the first few minutes of streaming but after that, everything went very well. Another good program for watching live TV on your PC.

Even though it is in Chinese, it was fairly easy to select the channel you want and the streaming did not take too long too so PPLive is definitely still one of the best P2PTV applications around.

PPStream
PPstream is one of the best P2P TV programs out there. The channel selection is huge and best of all, I experienced very few drops in video quality and most of the time, the video quality was good without any lag or frame rate issues which is good compared to the other P2P TV programs offered here.

Sopcast
Sopcast is one of the best P2PTV applications available today.

The interface is simple but easy to use. Even though they are only a few channels, all of them are pretty good. The stream quality is also very good and needed only a few seconds buffering.

Also, unlike other programs in this site, Sopcast is in English so you won't have to go to Google Translate every now and then.

Tvkoo
TVkoo is another fairly new P2PTV program. The channel selection they have is pretty good and the buffering did not take too long so I recommend that you try this out.

The interface is very attractive and it is also fairly easy to choose the channel you want. The stream quality is exceptional but this always depends on your internet connection and sometimes, your computer.

MySee
MySee is one of newest P2PTV applications out there. You only need to download the MySee broadcast plugins then you can watch the programs on your web browser.

The interface is pretty easy to understand and navigate through. The stream quality is also pretty good but that depends on your internet connection. There are many channels available although most of them are the local Chinese channels.

TVAnts
TVAnts has a nice selection of channels, especially sports channels.

The interface is also easily navigatable but is not that attractive and the channel selection is also pretty good. But the buffering took longer than other P2PTV applications so it got low marks there.

All in all, you should still try this one out.

TVU Player
Small, high-quality selection of channels. Some are rare - such as Gol TV (USA) which broadcasts 4 Spanish league matches per week with English commentary.

Feidian
Feidian is one of the new P2PTV programs. Most of the channels are good. They have CNN, Phoenix, ESPN, the usual CCTV channels and many movie channels.

After installing the program, launch Feidian and select one of the channels on the list. It will automatically start buffering. When the buffering is over, it will open in Windows Media Player.

The channel selection is good and I also like the simple user interface but the buffering was not as fast as expected so it got low marks there.

Help:
Why are the streams disrupted?

There can be a number of reasons for getting disrupted streams:

1. Not enough users sharing the stream: See our P2P streaming page Here to learn why a small number of sources may not be enough.

2. Your network connection is not fast enough. We recommend to use at least a 750kbps connection.

3. Other applications are consuming too much bandwidth. Most notably traditional P2P clients such as Emule, Kazza or Bittorent are very bandwidth demanding. Make sure those are not running when you try to watch video streams.

4. Your system is infected by a virus, spyware or malware. The later two are very common these days, and may significantly reduce your pc's performance. Keep your system clean by using an anti virus and anti malware/spyware software regularly.

5. You are running Windows XP with service pack 2 which limits TCP/IP connections. You can free your OS from this limitation by installing this Patch

While we can assure you that many people have used this patch successfully, if you choose to install it you do so at your own risk.

How to Connect to More Peers?

Windows XP SP2 limits the number of TCP connections your computer can make to prevent worms from spreading fast. Because of this, your BitTorrent downloads will be slow because you can't connect to many peers. Since P2PTV works on BitTorrent technology, you also won't be able to connect to many people so your video stream will be bad.

To fix this, there is a patcher that can solve this problem. Just run it after downloading and set to your desired number of maximum TCP connections, preferably 50-100.

Great guide Husky

I want to add three more links :

http://www.rojadirecta.com
http://www.myp2p.eu (EDIT Sarnobat - has a good forum with helpful people who respond fast.)
http://www.asiaplate.com/

On myp2p you can find excellent help too, or visit their forum. This is a good site for Dutch people:
http://www.voetbalinbeeld.nl

I don't know this site, I only found the link a few days ago, and I haven't tested it. But be free to do so:

Thanks Derek.

Rojadirecta particularly has excellent information.

My contribution:

www.freefootball.org/upcoming.php - For a list of upcoming games and channels showing them. Also has a useful forum.

Husky - I'm going to add TVU player to your post.

I'll also try to add these to the Atleticopedia links when I remember.

PPLive used to be the best, but I hate it now. I use TVAnts for 90% of my needs.

Does it just never finish loading? I use it for ESPN mostly and that works great. It takes about 30-60 secs to load.

I'm afraid we're no experts on this. You should ask your question on the board of www.myp2p.eu. I think they can help you. I have no problems with TVAnts, the only program that causes me problems is PPLive. I use PPStream and SopCast mostly
