UEFA official site hasn't announced the date of the final yet. Marca says it's going to be Friday, the 27th August, while Wikipedia thinks it's on Saturday the 28th.

Bayern would've been the preferred opponent for historical reasons, but I think Inter is good too. It's been a while since we've played an Italian side.

I think it will be the Friday, because the game is always after the Champions League draw. But I read that both teams only get 5.000 tickets...

According to AS, it's now decided that Atlético and Inter get only 5 500 tickets each. The clubs tried to apply for more, but the answer was that the small capacity of the Monaco stadium doesn't allow bigger quotas.

There are 4.718 tickets available for both teams. I have to look at cheap flights, but it's an almost unique chance.

Old hands face new experience
FC Internazionale Milano and Club Atlético de Madrid are no strangers to big European occasions but have never met in a competitive fixture and will only now make their UEFA Super Cup bows.

FC Internazionale Milano and Club Atlético de Madrid are no strangers to big European occasions but both will make their UEFA Super Cup debuts on 27 August.

Indeed, not only are UEFA Champions League winners Inter and UEFA Europa League victors Atlético making their bow in this competition, but the pair have never before met in an official fixture – some feat considering they boast more than 500 European games between them.

Both will be aiming to emulate city rivals in winning the UEFA Super Cup; Real Madrid CF were victorious in 2002 while AC Milan have lifted the trophy a record five times, including defeats of two Liga sides; FC Barcelona in 1989 and Sevilla FC in 2007.

The two coaches were both previously in charge at Valencia CF. Indeed, Rafael Benítez would have led them against FC Porto in the 2004 UEFA Super Cup had he not departed for Liverpool FC, with whom he won the UEFA Super Cup the following year, 3-1 against PFC CSKA Moskva.

If Inter win, Benítez would emulate Raymond Goethals, Arrigo Sacchi, Louis van Gaal, Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti in winning the UEFA Super Cup twice as a coach.

Like his Atlético side, Quique Sánchez Flores is making his debut in the UEFA Super Cup, and this is the first time there have been two Spanish coaches in the fixture, though in 1993 a pair of Italians met when Nevio Scala's Parma FC faced Fabio Capello's Milan.

One factor is on Quique Flores' side: since 2003, the previous season's UEFA Champions League winners have been victorious in odd-numbered years, alternating season by season with victors in the old UEFA Cup.

Overall since the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was abolished in 1999, the ten UEFA Super Cup editions have had five victories each for the holders of the two remaining major European club competitions.

Inter President Massimo Moratti: Atletico Madrid Are A Dangerous Team
The club chief suggests his side can't get too comfortable...

Inter claimed their first trophy under coach Rafael Benitez by winning the Italian Super Cup 3-1 over rivals Roma, after claiming an historic treble last season with Jose Mourinho at the helm. It certainly has been an era of success for the Nerazzurri, but president Massimo Moratti has warned against complacency.

Next on their list is the European Super Cup in Monaco this Friday, against Europa League winners Atletico Madrid and Moratti is hoping for more silverware to add to his cabinet as it is a trophy the team have never won.

"It was yet another victory, but I can't get too used to it and neither can the players. Behind every success there is a great effort," he told Inter Channel.

"We now challenge for the European Super Cup. It won't be easy, because Atletico Madrid are a very difficult side to face."

The Serie A champions start their domestic league season on Monday, August 30 against Bologna.

Atletico Madrid Addition Filipe Luis: Inter Have Great Players, But So Do We
The Brazilian defender praised Rafa Benitez's charges, but added that his side have quality, too...

Atletico Madrid new addition Filipe Luis has praised the squad of UEFA Super Cup rivals Inter ahead of their clash this Friday, but added that in Diego Forlan and Sergio 'Kun' Aguero, the capital club have a talented strike-force of their own.

The left-back moved from Deportivo la Coruna to Los Colchoneros for a fee of €12 million this summer, and had previously been linked with Barcelona before a broken leg curtailed his 2009-10 campaign.

As a result the Brazilian is eagerly anticipating this weekend’s competitive debut for his new club, and in a press conference yesterday he told journalists: “Inter have great players, but so do we. I think the front line of Kun [Aguero] and [Diego] Forlan are also scary. We each have our players.

“It will be an interesting match and we want to bring the trophy home. We are working hard to make a perfect match.”

Filipe also added that he believes that last season’s Champions League winners are the clear favourites for the match, and he is fully aware of the difficulty of the task at hand.

He added: “We know that only through a perfect game can we win. If there is a favourite, it is certainly not us, because they won the Champions League.

“We have a dream and a goal, which is to win this title. We know how difficult it is, but anything can happen and we are prepared.”

Atletico Madrid Coach Quique Sanchez Flores: Diego Forlan Will Be Fit For Inter Super Cup Encounter
Los Colchoneros coach says that the Uruguayan will be available for selection...

Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores is confident that striker Diego Forlan will be fit in time to take his place against Inter in Friday’s European Super Cup match at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.

Forlan, who won the Golden Ball for best player at World Cup 2010, has been struggling for fitness in recent weeks as he looks to gain condition for the new season, but Sanchez Flores insists that he will be ready in time to take on the Serie A champions, although team-mate Tiago is unlikely to travel.

He stated: “Forlan is now well, and has progressed significantly in recent days.

“However, Tiago is not travelling because he has not reached an appropriate level of fitness to deal with a European Super Cup. These are negative things that can happen, but it is not a major setback because we have four other midfielders who are fantastic.”

The former Valencia coach also analysed the Inter squad and gave notice of what challenges his side can expect in the match.

He added: “They [Inter] are very powerful, very physical. The way to beat them is to remain a very solid team, be very serious and competitive, and not to lose concentration for a second. Our only advantage is that this is a one-off match.”

Sanchez Flores concluded by saying that although his side are ready to face Inter, the real kick-off is versus Sporting in the opening La Liga fixture of the season.

He warned: “The Super Cup is an epilogue, an award for last season. It is vital to understand that this season starts against Sporting. With or without the Super Cup title, we must start the season with the same attitude.”

Moratti: Inter Milan now ready for Atletico Madrid
23.08.10 | tribalfootball.com

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti says Atletico Madrid are in their sights.

After winning the Italian Super Cup, Inter now are ready for the European Super Cup against Atletico.

“Inter should never get accustomed to success, as this victory was only earned after a tremendous effort,” Moratti told Inter Channel.

“Now we will challenge for the European Super Cup and it won’t be easy, because Atletico Madrid are a very tough side.”

Aguero convinced of big season ahead for Atletico Madrid
23.08.10 | tribalfootball.com

Sergio Aguero is convinced of a big campaign ahead for Atletico Madrid.

Quique Sanchez Flores' side can pick up more silverware on Friday when they face Inter Milan in the European Super Cup, and Aguero hopes that is the start of another fruitful campaign.

"Practically no players have left. All of us from last year, when we got to two finals, are here, and this year, with the players we have brought in, we can do a lot more," he said.

Last season's treble winners Inter will represent a difficult opponent on Friday, but Aguero believes his side can beat anyone on their day.

He continued: "We are capable of squaring up to any team with our confidence and winning mentality. It will be a great game."

Aguero insists Atletico Madrid can shock Super Cup opponents Inter Milan
24.08.10 | tribalfootball.com

Sergio Aguero insists Atletico Madrid have nothing to fear from Inter Milan ahead of the European Super Cup.

It will be Atletico’s first official game of the season.

“Inter want to win six trophies in one year like Barcelona? We are thinking about stopping them, this way we’ll make our friends in Barcelona happy,” Aguero said.

“Starting with a Final gives a particular flavour to the summer and to the season. I can’t wait, but the objective isn’t easy. We must give our best and bring the cup back here to Madrid.

“Obviously we are preoccupied because Inter are a great team and going forward they are really dangerous, but be aware that Atletico are in a position to match any team.

“If we go into the game with certainty and a winning mentality, we can play a great game.”

Atletico Madrid Are Equipped To Beat Inter - Tomas Ujfalusi
The Czech warrior is ready to beat Inter to the European Super Cup and prepares for more glory this season with the Rojiblancos...

Czech international Tomas Ujfalusi believes Atletico Madrid have what it takes to beat Inter in the European Super Cup when the two sides meet on Friday.

"For us it is the game of the year, and I must congratulate Inter for what they accomplished last year. Talk about a team of a high level! But we are ready to win. In fact, we are equipped to win," Ujfalusi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

When questioned over rumours regarding a move back to his former club Fiorentina the bullish defender replied: "My favourite coach [Cesare] Prandelli has joined the national team. In Madrid I am fine, I still have a year on my contract and I want to win something again."

Atletico Madrid Can Stop Inter's Trophy March - Diego Forlan

Forlan up for the cup...

Atletico Madrid ace Diego Forlan has sent a provocative message to Inter ahead of the European Super Cup and he is ready to shut the quadruple champions out from mopping up more trophies as he prepares to squeeze them dry.

"Inter are a strong team, but we want to take our chances in the Super Cup. I hope Atletico can win as it would be fantastic for us," Forlan told Il Corriere dello Sport.

"But Inter work well as a collective and individual team. They deserved the Champions League, and they are always good with the Scudetto, they are the best in Italy.

"However, on Friday we will try 100 per cent to lift the cup, playing against Inter always gives us motivation."

Forlan was linked with the Nerazzurri as a possible summer transfer arrival, but he is ready to exhaust himself with Atleti.

"I have always said these were just voices. No offer has arrived. I have three years on my contract and I am well at Atletico Madrid," he concluded.
