Atletico Madrid Addition Filipe Luis: Inter Have Great Players, But So Do We
The Brazilian defender praised Rafa Benitez's charges, but added that his side have quality, too...
Atletico Madrid new addition Filipe Luis has praised the squad of UEFA Super Cup rivals Inter ahead of their clash this Friday, but added that in Diego Forlan and Sergio 'Kun' Aguero, the capital club have a talented strike-force of their own.
The left-back moved from Deportivo la Coruna to Los Colchoneros for a fee of €12 million this summer, and had previously been linked with Barcelona before a broken leg curtailed his 2009-10 campaign.
As a result the Brazilian is eagerly anticipating this weekend’s competitive debut for his new club, and in a press conference yesterday he told journalists: “Inter have great players, but so do we. I think the front line of Kun [Aguero] and [Diego] Forlan are also scary. We each have our players.
“It will be an interesting match and we want to bring the trophy home. We are working hard to make a perfect match.”
Filipe also added that he believes that last season’s Champions League winners are the clear favourites for the match, and he is fully aware of the difficulty of the task at hand.
He added: “We know that only through a perfect game can we win. If there is a favourite, it is certainly not us, because they won the Champions League.
“We have a dream and a goal, which is to win this title. We know how difficult it is, but anything can happen and we are prepared.”

Atletico Madrid Coach Quique Sanchez Flores: Diego Forlan Will Be Fit For Inter Super Cup Encounter
Los Colchoneros coach says that the Uruguayan will be available for selection...
Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores is confident that striker Diego Forlan will be fit in time to take his place against Inter in Friday’s European Super Cup match at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
Forlan, who won the Golden Ball for best player at World Cup 2010, has been struggling for fitness in recent weeks as he looks to gain condition for the new season, but Sanchez Flores insists that he will be ready in time to take on the Serie A champions, although team-mate Tiago is unlikely to travel.
He stated: “Forlan is now well, and has progressed significantly in recent days.
“However, Tiago is not travelling because he has not reached an appropriate level of fitness to deal with a European Super Cup. These are negative things that can happen, but it is not a major setback because we have four other midfielders who are fantastic.”
The former Valencia coach also analysed the Inter squad and gave notice of what challenges his side can expect in the match.
He added: “They [Inter] are very powerful, very physical. The way to beat them is to remain a very solid team, be very serious and competitive, and not to lose concentration for a second. Our only advantage is that this is a one-off match.”
Sanchez Flores concluded by saying that although his side are ready to face Inter, the real kick-off is versus Sporting in the opening La Liga fixture of the season.
He warned: “The Super Cup is an epilogue, an award for last season. It is vital to understand that this season starts against Sporting. With or without the Super Cup title, we must start the season with the same attitude.”
