Atletico Madrid are tracking Rennes fullback Rod Fanni.

The young Frenchman is preparing to quit Ligue 1 at the end of this season and has attracted big interest from England.

However, Fanni is also wanted by Atletico - and Spanish rivals Villarreal.

Atletico Madrid aim to bolster their squad as they prepare for a lengthy 2009-10 campaign and are said to be preparing a bid for Rennes right-back Rod Fanni, according to AS.

The Ligue 1 star has attracted interest from several European clubs this summer, with Bayern Munich, Everton, West Ham United and Villarreal all rumoured to be watching the Frenchman, who can play as a winger or in defence.

It is understood that Atletico are looking to strengthen the right flank and possibly add another player on the left as they look to compete on three fronts this season.

Los Colchoneros are expected to make a move before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday. The 27-year-old would cost somewhere in the region of €6-8 million.

Fanni has been capped three times by France and joined Rennes from Nice in 2007.

Atletico Madrid are considering a deal for Rennes fullback Rod Fanni.

The 27 year-old is under consideration by Atletico as they seek a new right-back signing before the summer market closes.

Fanni is rated at £6 million and is also a long-term target for Everton.

Atlético don't really have much of a chance to sign Fanni at this point of the transferwindow, mostly because it's too late for Rennes to get a replacement for him.

He's one of France's best right-backs and France have a tradition of producing quality fullbacks. We'll have to pay €10-12 million to get Fanni. He was also voted into Ligue 1 Team of the Year last season, so yes, Pitarch has finally found some quality.

Rennes fullback Rod Fanni has confirmed an approach from Atletico Madrid.

The experienced defender said yesterday: "There are only two days left, but I'm not especially worried.

"I know there are discussions under way and that everything will depend on those discussions.

"Atletico Madrid is the club."
