Ignacio Camacho signs a professional contract with Atlético de Madrid
The new generations of the Atlético de Madrid youth system are arriving with force and at the forefront of this new cast of young and talented atléticos is Ignacio Camacho. Centre-midfielder for Atlético de Madrid B and international with all of the Spanish inferior categories, we find ourselves before one of the most important members of the Atleti organization with eyes towards the future. For this reason, Club Atlético de Madrid, continuing with its firm policy of strengthening its link with the developmental squads, has signed Ignacio Camacho to his first professional contract. The deal reaches until June of 2010 and in this way the young midfielder takes another step in his promising athletic career.
Ignacio Camacho will never forget 2007, a year in which he grew as a footballer and in which successes accompanied him. He was proclaimed European champion with the Under-17 Spanish National team, acting as captain both on and off the pitch, and picking up the trophy at a tournament held in Belgium in which the Spaniards beat England in the final by the score of 1-0. In addition, the player was declared Best Player in 2007 by the Madrid Football Federation, receiving the award from its president, Vicente Temprado.
After arriving at Atlético at the ‘Cadet’ level, Camacho has been growing year-after-year until making the Atlético Madrid B squad this season. With the signing of this professional contract, the footballer takes another step in his athletic career.
In statements made to the Club’s official web page, Ignacio emphasized that “it’s a reason for any player to be happy for their club to have confidence in them. The Club has shown that it has great confidence in me and that’s reason to be thankful. I’ve always given anything to Atlético and it’s going to stay that way. Even though it’s an important step, I prefer to remain calm because I still have lots to show. My big goal is to solidify a spot for myself in the future of the first squad, which is what all of us footballers from the youth program want”.
This new step in his professional career is “an added pressure, but its very positive for my continual growth as an Atlético de Madrid footballer. What I’m very clear about is that I’m going to keep working with the same intensity that I have until now. I’m aware that I’m part of a grand club and I know that if I want to go far I can’t stop working. I came to Atlético because I placed my confidence in this organization and that’s why I’m appreciative, I’ll repeat, for the great confidence that they’ve placed in me”.
Camacho knows that “a great organization is obligated to sign great foreign players, but Atlético de Madrid has always kept their home-grown footballers in mind and that makes all of us young footballers aware that one day our opportunity to play in the first squad might come if we work hard and do things well”.
Atlético de Madrid has initiated an important phase in its history and Ignacio Camacho is called on to be a central figure in the first team in a not-so-far-away future. The midfielder thinks that Javier Aguirre’s team is on a very good path and considered that “they’re doing things really well this season, demonstrating that their a ‘grand’. The team is well-situated in the three competitions and has aspirations for big things, which I hope they can reach”.
He has his feet on the ground and he knows that his immediate future is linked to the reserve squad, which is having a notable season. The midfielder stressed that “good generations of footballers are arriving behind the first team, as is evident from the campaign that the reserve team is having. We have a good team and I’m sure that we’ll keep scaling spots as the weeks pass”.
