Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo: Europa League Progress Will Not Be Easy
Los Colchoneros given tricky trips in order to progress...
Atletico Madrid president Enqrique Cerezo believes qualification from the Europa League group stages will 'not be easy' after today’s draw pitted them against Bayer Leverkusen, Rosenborg, and Aris Salonika.
Los Colchoneros qualified directly into the group stages as a result of their triumph in the competition last season, and Cerezo was present in Monaco today to watch the draw unfold.
Speaking to journalists afterwards, he said, “It will not be an easy group, these groups are always difficult and we will have to fight to qualify.
“The team as a whole however is ready to fight not just for success in this competition but all three competitions in which we are involved.”
Club sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch also commented on the draw, believing that the draw had been favourable to los Colchoneros.
He claimed, “The group has its complications, and all teams have history, but other groups look to be more difficult.
“Our German rivals [Bayer Leverkusen] are very strong, but have not been successful in recent years.”
